GPA → Letter Grade Mapping Framework
This interpretive module converts a continuous GPA value into a discrete qualitative performance band (letter grade). It supports rapid transcript readability, eligibility screening, and honor classification workflows.
Reference Mapping Table (Standard 4.0 Domain)
| GPA Range | Letter | Performance Band |
|---|---|---|
| 3.70 – 4.00 | A | Excellent Mastery |
| 2.70 – 3.69 | B | Strong Proficiency |
| 1.70 – 2.69 | C | Satisfactory |
| 0.70 – 1.69 | D | Marginal Pass |
| 0.00 – 0.69 | F | No Credit |
Interpretation Notes
- Upper boundary inclusion may vary; some registrars treat 3.67–3.69 as A‑ range.
- Institutional modifiers (A-, B+, etc.) can refine classification; this tool outputs coarse banding.
- Use raw GPA + letter for scholarship reporting (improves transparency).
Use Cases
- Fast audit of minimum GPA thresholds (program entry / retention).
- Transcript summarization for non-technical audiences.
- Legacy systems requiring categorical performance tokens.
FAQ Snapshot
- Why does 4.0 also show as A? Many scales collapse A and A+ at 4.0 ceiling unless extended weighting exists.
- Is rounding applied? Generally two-decimal rounding; borderline cases defer to registrar policy.
